ABD. Dissertation on gender representation in 19th-century literature. Was making good progress. Then... nothing. Two weeks of nothing. Complete blank. Writer's block so thick I can't even open the document. 📄

I sit down. I stare. I open social media. I stare some more. I make tea. I reorganize my desk. I stare at the document again. I close it. Repeat.

My advisor emailed asking for a draft. I haven't replied. What do I say? "Sorry, my brain decided to stop working"? "I'll get to it eventually"? "Please don't hate me"?

The worst part is the guilt. Every hour I don't write is an hour wasted. Every day that passes is a day closer to the deadline. The pressure builds and builds and makes it even HARDER to write. It's a vicious cycle.

I know what I need to write. I have the outline. I have the sources. I have the arguments. The words just won't come. Like my brain is disconnected from my fingers.

Any other dissertators been here? How do you break the block? How do you start again when starting feels impossible? I need practical tips, not "just write anything." I've tried writing anything. Anything is nothing. 🆘
