How do I stop procrastinating and write my dissertation? I'm in year 4.

Year 4 of my PhD. I have 50 pages written. I need 200. My advisor emails asking for drafts. I don't reply. I hide. I'm a professional avoider at this point.

The thing is, I love my research. I love my topic. But sitting down to write feels like running through quicksand. I'll do literally anything else — organize my bookshelf by color, learn a new language on Duolingo, deep-clean the fridge — anything to avoid opening that document.

I've tried all the advice. Pomodoro. Write every day. Write 15 minutes then stop. Nothing sticks.

Has anyone actually beaten dissertation procrastination? What worked? I'm desperate. 😭

Stop hiding from your advisor. Seriously. The shame spiral gets worse the longer you avoid. I did this for 6 months and when I finally emailed back I literally lied about a family emergency cause I was too embarrassed to admit I'd just... not written. Don't be me. Send the embarrassing email NOW. They've seen it before. They'd rather know than wonder if you dropped out. Rip the bandaid off.
