I haven't taken a real break in months. I told myself I couldn't afford to. Every day not writing was a day wasted. But I've been staring at my screen for hours, writing nothing. I'm exhausted.
A dissertation coach said: “Take breaks before you're broken. You can't work at full capacity indefinitely.”
I'm taking a week off. No writing. No reading. No guilt. I'll sleep, walk, cook, watch movies. I'm scared I'll lose momentum. But I think I'll come back clearer.
For other dissertators, have you taken a real break? Did it help? I'm trying to believe that rest is not wasted time.
